How to play Blotchi

A five-minute read that takes you from your first level to your first flawless.

Blotchi looks simple, and it is easy to start, but there is real skill underneath. This guide walks through everything you need: placing your creature, painting it, zooming in for detail, reading the blend score, and understanding how the Seeker decides whether it found you.

1. Meet Smudge

Smudge is the little round creature you are hiding. He starts as a plain blob. Everything you do in a level is about making him look like the piece of scenery he is sitting on.

2. Place him with the Move tool

Each level opens on the Move tool. Drag Smudge to wherever you want to hide. Big flat areas of a single colour are the easiest place to disappear. Busy areas with lots of edges and colours are harder, but a great hide there feels fantastic. Take a moment to pick a spot where the surroundings are calm and even.

3. Paint him with the Paint tool

Tap Paint and the view zooms in on Smudge. Along the bottom you have a row of colour swatches taken straight from the scene, so the right colour is always on the palette. Pick a colour, pick a brush size, and drag across Smudge to lay paint. Match the base colour first, then add the details: a stripe, a grout line, a speckle, whatever runs across the spot he is hiding in.

The secret is that the scan compares Smudge, pixel for pixel, against the scene directly behind him. The closer your paint matches, the higher your blend score.

4. Pinch to zoom for the fine detail

On phones and tablets you can pinch to zoom right into Smudge, and use two fingers to pan around. On a computer, scroll to zoom. This is how you nail the tricky edges and small patterns that separate a pass from a flawless. Tap Reset to jump back to the normal view.

5. Face the Seeker

When you are happy, press Ready. The Seeker sweeps the scene and your blend is scored from 0 to 100:

Earning a star on a level opens the next one, so you always have somewhere to go.

6. Power-ups and coins

Two optional power-ups can bend a round your way: +30 seconds of extra painting time, and Seeker −5s, which rushes the scan and makes it a little easier to slip past. You earn coins for good hides, and you can spend them on pattern stamps and poses. Colours and brushes are always free.

7. The Daily Challenge

Every day the whole world gets the same scene. You get one attempt, then it locks with a countdown to the next one at midnight UTC. It is a nice way to test your skills against a scene you did not choose.
